Pura goa Gajah terletak di Desa Bedulu, kecamatan Blahbatuh kabupaten daerah tingkat II Gianyar. Jaraknya dari Denpasar Kurang lebih 26 Km, sangat mudah dicapai. Disana ada kios-kios kesenian dan Rumah makan.

Pura ini di lingkupi oleh persawahan dengan keindahan ngarai sungai Petanu, berada pada jalur wisata Denpasar – Tampaksiring – Danau Batur – Kintamani. Disekitarnya terdapat tempat-tempat bersejarah seperti Yeh Pulu, Samuan Tiga, Gedung Arca, Arjuna Metapa, Kebo Edan, Pusering Jagat, Penataran Sasih dan lain-lain. Namun Goa Gajah belum diketahui asal usulnya secara pasti. Nama ini perpaduan nama Pura Guwa (sebutan masyarakat setempat) dengan nama kuna yang termuat dalam prasasti-prasasti yakni Ergajah dan Lwa Gajah. Nama-nama Anta Kunjarapada dan Ratna Kunjarapada itu dari akhir abad kesepuluh sampai akhir abad ke Empat belas ( Negara Kertagama ). Kekunaan ini didukung oleh Peninggalan Purbakala.

Di pelataran Pura Goa Gajah terdapat Petirtaan kuno 12 x 23 M2, terbagi atas tiga bilik. Dibilik utara terdapat tiga buah Arca Pancuran dan di bilik Selatan ada Arca Pancuran pula, sedangkan di bilik tengah hanya terdapat apik arca. Lebih kurang 13 meter di sebelah utara Petirtaan terdapat Goa atau Ceruk Pertapaan berbentuk huruf T. Lorong Goa berukuran : lebar 2,75 M, tinggi 2,00 M. Dikiri kanan lorong terdapat ceruk-ceruk untuk bersemedi, jumlahnya 15 buah. Pada ceruk paling Timur terdapat Trilingga dan diujung Barat terdapat Arca Ganeca.

Dihalaman Goa Pura Gajah diketemukan pula Fragmen bangunan yang belum bisa direkonstruksi. Tembok keliling menjadi penanggul tebing disebelah Barat pula ini. Lebih kurang 100M disebelah Selatan Petirtaan didapati sisa-sisa Percandian Tebing. Sebagian kaki candi itu masih ada bagian – bagian yang lain telah runtuh ke kaki yang ada didepannya. Sebuah Chatra berpayung 13 tergeletak ditepi kaki itu. Badan candi itu memakai hiasan yang sangat indah. Ada pula bagian Chatra bercabang tiga. Dua buah Arca Budha dengan sikap Dhynamudra diletakkan pada sebuah tahta berdekatan dengan ceruk yang hampir jebol. Berhadapan dengan percandian ini terdapat sebuah ceruk pertapaan pula. Didepan ceruk ini dibangun balai peristirahatan dan sebuah kolam.

The name is a combination name Pura Guwa (local name) with the name contained in the ancient inscriptions which Ergajah and LWA Elephant.
